| Equipment Donations Touch Lives Far Afield. There is a long list of appropriate equipment that is vitally necessary for diagnostic, surgical and medical function of a hospital. Things outdated here in the States may have use in the developing world. We can free up storage space and keep from filling up our landfills by getting this equipment into the appropriate hands. We have perfectly good dermatomes sitting in closets for "back ups to our back ups" in case our primary unit fails. And a doctor in Zimbabwe uses a wooden paddle to stretch the skin and a straight razor to harvest a skin graft for a young female patient burned at the cooking fire.... how many backups do we need? There is a Geveral Donation Guidelines document link on the home page with some broad general rules. Since you care for the ministries enough to try to support them with equipment please read and send appropriate assistance. Some items require expensive support and materials and may be almost universally inappropriate for use in third world settings (dialysis machines are one example). It is inappropriate to send equipment that does not work. The skills and spare parts do not exist in many developing countries we serve to fix equipment on site. We will be updating a list of equipment (both appropriate and inappropriate) on this web site to help you make those decisions. Appropriateness is a huge issue in supporting Christian medical missions in a third world country. We at MedEquip Missions encourage those who are new to medical missions to partner with experienced missions to learn and keep from making expensive mistakes. Technical Exchage for Christian Heathcare, Inc. (TECH www.techmd.org) is a good place to start for advice. MedEquip Missions is proud to be a member ministry of TECH. |
